Master Program

I. Program Introduction

TDTU provides various Master’s programs:

Duration: 18 – 24 months

Graduation Requirements:

Completed a minimum of 35 compulsory and optional credits; Reported in at least one scientific workshop; Successfully completed and defended their Masters thesis.

II. The expected learning outcomes

- Ability to discover research issues and carry out an independent research project;
- Critical thinking through reading and reviewing documents / texts and research questions;
- Designing tools for collecting quantitative information (questionnaire / opinion questionnaire) and qualitative information (developing interview questions, observation contents, ...);
- Ability to analyze and process quantitative and qualitative information;
- Write reports, present and protect research results

III. Career Opportunities

- Teaching and research officers at higher education institutions, colleges and research institutes; Center for public opinion research (position of expert, field research, coordinator and analyst in research projects, ...);
- Marketing, advertising, public relations specialist of the company (in the role of customer advisor, expert and copywriter, public opinion research, and market demand analysis,...);
- Third Area Experts include non-governmental organizations, associations and centers (project coordinator positions, assessment experts, cost/benefit analysis, system analysis,...);
- Experts at all levels of local administration to the central (as an advisor, or analyst, evaluating Social Development Program, Community Development Project ...), as a journalist, writers or columnists, and editors, ... at the media.

V. Admission Requirements

Complete at least 35 credits of core and elective courses;
Complete a thesis and defend it successfully in front of a Committee;
Complete A2 level of Vietnamese language course or B2 level for TESOL program.

1. Admission application requirements:

The minimum graduate admission requirements are:

- Foreign candidates have a bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution;

- Vietnamese candidates have a full-time bachelor’s degree issued by Ton Duc Thang University within 12 months until the time of application;

- Vietnamese candidates have excellent bachelor’s degree and must studied in full-time educational programs issued by a public university within 12 months until the time of application;

- Candidates must have English certificate above 500 TOEIC score (or any equivalent international English certificates) within 2 years until the time of application.

- English Language Proficiency: English is a medium of instruction for the master program: TOEIC 600, TOEFL iBT 50, IELTS 5.5, PET/FCE 160 (English certificates must be valid for two years from the test date up to the application date) 
Vietnamese is a medium of instruction for the master program: TOEIC 500, TOEFL iBT 45, IELTS 4.5, PET/FCE 140 (English certificates must be valid for two years from the test date up to the application date)

2. Entrance examination requirements: (for Vietnamese candidates only)

- Using for candidates, who are not in admission application method

- Examination’s subjects: Basis subject, Fundamental subject and English

VII. Tuition Fee Information

1. The tuition fee 

- Tuition fee for the master courses: $2000/2-years 

- Tuition fee for the Vietnamese language course:

Vietnamese language tuition fee (in 4 months) to get A2 level for Master majors taught in English: $800 Vietnamese language tuition fee (in 10 months) to get B2 level for Master majors taught in Vietnamese: $1500

VIII. Scholarship Award

4+1 Master Program

I. Introduction to the training industry

Master's program in Sociology aims to create masters who make good use of the in-depth knowledge and scientific research methodology of sociology major at the expert level, capable of researching to solving problems and practical social issues in the world, offering solutions to help change social issues in a positive way. VI. Benefits of participating in Program 4 + 1

Training time is short (5 years, there are two degrees: bachelor and master);

Subjects and conditions of participation

Target audience: Students who are TDTU students in year 3 accumulate a minimum of 70 credits in the university-level training program.

TDTU students in year 1 and 2 can register for the 4 + 1 program and attend one general education course (can be registered when they have not yet accumulated 70 credits).

VII. Conditions for studying 4 + 1 programs

- Student majoring in Sociology; if the undergraduate training majors are in the near industry list, the disciplines other than sociology will be consulted and guided by the Faculties specific to each case;

- Students with a cumulative GPA of 7.0 (scale 10) or more are allowed to enroll up to 50% of the credits of the master's degree program. The remaining students are allowed to enroll up to 40% of the credits of the master's degree program.

VIII. Scholarship policy

- Scholarship 50% for each module (not applicable for general knowledge modules):

Students with cumulative GPA of  8.0 (10 points scale) and above registered specialized courses.

- Scholarship 30% for each module (not applicable for general knowledge modules):

Students with a cumulative GPA from 7.0 to less than 8.0 (10 points scale) register for specialized courses.

- Scholarship 25% for each course:

Students register for general knowledge modules (Philosophy and Scientific Research Methods):

Students who do not belong to the 02 the above subjects registered specialized courses.
