The Fifth Student Science Research Conference 2024 and Exhibitions of Outstanding Student Scientific Research Projects

On September 14, 2024, at Hall 10F, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) organized the 5th “Student Scientific Research Conference” in 2024 and exhibited outstanding student research projects that have achieved significant success over the years. The conference was held to honor and recognize the research efforts of student scientific research groups in the 2023-2024 academic year; initiate and carry out student research activities in the Faculty; promote dynamism, creativity, independent research skills, and foster students' capacity for self-directed learning.

The conference was attended by teachers who are representatives of the Ton Duc Thang University's units, representatives of units of the Faculty (Faculty of Political Theory and Social Sciences, People's Police University), guests, lecturers, staff of the FSSH and more than 200 students of the Faculty.

In her opening remarks at the conference, Ms. Pham Thi Ha Thuong - Acting Dean of the Faculty emphasized the significance of the student research activities as well as the development and effectiveness of the activities over the past five editions of the conference; at the same time, she thanked the University's functional units for always accompanying, supporting and contributing to the overall success of the Faculty's student research activities.

The conference summarized the results of the student research activities in the 2023-2024 academic year of the FSSH with 15 student research topics supported by the University and completed at the Faculty level. On the occasion of this conference, the Faculty sent congratulations to the student research groups in the 2023-2024 âcdemic year for their efforts, endeavors and successes. The Faculty awarded letters of commendation and commemorative medals to five research groups with high University-level achievements and certificates to 10 research groups that actively participated in student research activities. At the same time, the Faculty also presented commemorative medals to express gratitude to 19 lecturers who have actively contributed to the research activities of students in the past academic year as members of the acceptance council at the Faculty and University levels and as lecturers advise research groups. Thus, the 2023-2024 academic year has ended with many proud achievements. Following that success, to prepare well for the 2024-2025 academic year, the conference launched student research activities at the Faculty level for the 2024-2025 academic year to all attending students.

Next on the program was the presentation and audience interaction with three research groups that achieved top recognition at the University level in the 2023-2024 academic year, specifically:

1. The topic won the first prize of the School-level Student Research Competition for the 2023-2024 school year: Application of Group Social Work in Livelihood Support for women in difficult circumstances in Ward 7, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. Student group: Huynh Thanh Triet, Phan Minh Bao Tran, Nguyen Bui Hieu Hanh; Supervisor: MSc. Pham Thi Ha Thuong, MSc. Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh.

2. The topic won the first prize of the School-level Student Research Competition for the 2023-2024 school year: Understanding green organizational citizenship behavior from an employee's perspective: An empirical study within the context of hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. Student group: Nguyen Minh Quy, Bui Khanh Linh, To Tran Thanh Truc; Supervisor: Dr. Nguyen Minh Huan.

3. The topic won the second prize of the School-level Student Research Competition for the 2023-2024 school year: The impact of the working environment on the organizational commitment of Generation Y and Gen Z office workers in Ho Chi Minh City. Student group: Truong Thi Mong Ni, Phan Vu Yen Nhung, Pham Thi Bich Theu; Instructor: Dr. Le Thi Mai.

Following this, a discussion titled: "Student Scientific Research: Opportunities and Challenges" was held to support students with a passion for research, giving the key to open the door to creative ideas that are being nurtured with the speakers:

(1) Dr. Pham Thanh Hai, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, University of Labour-Social Affairs, Campus 2, HCMC;

(2) M.A. Nguyen Thi Minh Chau, Researcher of Southern Institute of Social Sciences;

(3) Dr. Le Hong Vuong, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Van Hien University;

(4) Dr. Dang Thi Kim Phung, Head of the Global Social Issues and Theory Research Group (GIST) of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, as the moderator of the seminar.

The seminar had useful exchanges and sharing for the students attending. Ms. Pham Thi Ha Thuong concluded the program by presenting a letter and a gift of appreciation to the speaker. In addition, an exhibition of outstanding student scientific research projects with high achievements over the years was held at the Ground Floor Hall of Building B, Ton Duc Thang University. Through this, students will form research ideas suitable for the industry/specialization they are trained in and develop the ideas into a research topic under the guidance of teachers.
