The Global Inquiries and Social Theory Research Group Hosts a Journal Club Seminar
At 13:00 on March 24, 2026, in Room B010 at Ton Duc Thang University, the Global Inquiries and Social Theory Research Group (GIST) organized a scientific seminar featuring Dr. Nicholas John Papastergiadis, a collaborating researcher with the group, as the speaker.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Dang Thi Kim Phung, Head of GIST; Dr. John Hutnyk; faculty members of the department; and 31 students majoring in Sociology.
During the seminar, Dr. Nicholas John Papastergiadis delivered two Journal Club presentations:
- LaCapra, D. (2016). Trauma, history, memory, identity: What remains? History and Theory, 55(3), 375–400.
- Rothberg, M. (2006). Between Auschwitz and Algeria: Multidirectional memory and the counterpublic witness. Critical Inquiry, 33(1), 158–184.
In the discussion session, the speaker analyzed and addressed a range of issues concerning the relationship between trauma, memory, and history; the interaction between multidirectional memory and public discourses; as well as the global implications of memories related to the Holocaust.
The seminar provided valuable insights and contributed to fostering academic exchange, while also supporting the interdisciplinary research orientation of the group and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
