The Global Inquiries and Social Theory Research Group Organizes the November 2025 Journal Club Session

At 15:00 on 18 November 2025, in Room B010 at Ton Duc Thang University, the Global Inquiries and Social Theory Research Group (GIST) held its monthly scientific seminar featuring Dr. Kenneth Fero, an affiliated research fellow of the group.

The session was attended by Dr. Dang Thi Kim Phung, Head of GIST; Dr. John Hutnyk; and lecturers and staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

During the program, Dr. Kenneth Fero presented two Journal Club reports:

  • Scott Hawkins, D. (2023). How Black communities cope with trauma triggered by police brutality. The Conversation.
  • Bhattacharyya, G. (2024). In Our Millions – A Netpol report on the policing of protests in Britain against Israeli genocide in Palestine.

In the discussion session, the speaker analyzed and addressed various issues related to research methodologies for studying psychological trauma caused by police violence among affected communities in Atlanta (USA) and the United Kingdom, as well as the ethical principles researchers must uphold when conducting such studies.

The Journal Club session provided valuable scientific insights, contributing to enhanced academic exchange and supporting the interdisciplinary research orientation of both the research group and the Faculty.
