Seminar “Border as Method”
A seminar on the topic “Border as Method”, by Professor Brett Neilson of Western Sydney University, Australia, was presented on the afternoon of December 12, 2023, at the meeting room on the 5th Floor of the Library - Ton Duc Thang University. The seminar is part of a series of academic activities on the topic “Social Science Methodologies” organised by the Sociology Department, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and coordinated with the Southern Working Committee of the Vietnam Sociological Association.
Prof. Neilson is a research expert on globalisation, emphasizing cultural and social aspects and drawing on social and cultural theory as well as empirical research. His research has found unique means to reconsider the significance of globalisation for a wide range of contemporary problems and difficulties.
Chairing the seminar was PhD. Le Thi Mai - Head of Sociology Department, PhD. John Hutnyk - Research lecturer in the Sociology Department, and Professor. PhD. Bui The Cuong - Head of the Southern Working Committee, Vietnam Sociological Association.
At the seminar, the speaker shared perspectives on methodological approaches to questions of migration in the context of globalisation, as presented in his book, titled “Border as Method, or, The Multiplication of Labor”. After the presentation, lecturers and students had discussions to clarify various issues.
The seminar attracted the participation of many experts, lecturers at universities and students, providing opportunities for academic exchange for lecturers and students majoring in sociology.
