As part of the academic seminar series under the Bachelor of Sociology program with a specialization in Mass Communication, the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), successfully organized a seminar on May 19, 2025, at the 5th Floor Conference Room, University Library. The event focused on the topics “Cosmopolitanism” and “Media Engagement and Multicultural Arts.”

Representing the FSSH were Dr. Pham Thi Ha Thuong – Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang – Vice Dean, and Dr. Le Thi Mai – Head of the Department of Sociology. The seminar was chaired by Dr. John Hutnyk, a research lecturer of the Department of Sociology, and attracted the participation of numerous faculty members, students, and scholars from both Vietnam and abroad who share a keen interest in global media and cultural studies.

The Faculty was honored to welcome Professor Nikos Papastergiadis from the Faculty of Arts, University of Melbourne (Australia), as the keynote speaker. In his insightful presentation, Professor Nikos explored the concept of cosmopolitanism as both a lived social reality and a driving force for creativity and community connection in the context of globalization.

Following the keynote, three student groups from FSSH delivered presentations on topics related to media and multicultural arts. Their presentations were met with thoughtful critiques and lively academic discussions from attending experts, fostering an atmosphere of intellectual exchange and engagement.

This seminar marked the final academic event of the 2024–2025 academic year for the Department of Sociology. Looking ahead, the FSSH remains committed to expanding academic forums, strengthening international collaboration, and cultivating a dynamic and innovative learning environment for its students.
