Seminar on "Immersive Community Engagement Around Kenh Te Canal, HCMC: The Possibilities of VR Film as a Research Method"
On the afternoon of January 7, 2025, the Department of Sociology at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) hosted a seminar titled "Immersive Community Engagement Around Kenh Te Canal, HCMC: The Possibilities of VR Film as a Research Method," presented by Dr. Agnieszka Kiejziewicz from RMIT University.
The event was part of the "Social Science Methodologies" seminar series, organized by the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, to support the academic needs of the Sociology training program, with a particular focus on mass communication.
Chaired by Dr. John Hutnyk, a research lecturer in the Department of Sociology, the seminar attracted a significant number of lecturers, graduate students, and undergraduate students from related fields.
During the presentation, Dr. Kiejziewicz introduced a research project centered on the environment and community life around the Kenh Te Canal area. The project not only documented local stories but also preserved valuable memories of the canal's current state through the innovative application of virtual reality (VR) film technology.
The seminar concluded with a dynamic discussion involving academics, practitioners, students, and other interested scholars, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of intellectual exchange.
The seminar series will continue with diverse topics scheduled for January 14, February 11, and February 18, 2025.
