On February 18, 2025, a seminar titled "Life and Liminality during Covid-19: An Ethnography of Pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam" was held in Room B010. The event featured a presentation by Ms. Rachel Anne Tough, a Ph.D candidate at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom.
The seminar was chaired by Dr. John Hutnyk, Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, and attended by faculty members, students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, and other scholars with an interest in the topic.
Ms. Tough presented her ongoing research in Vietnam, which examines the relationship between the state and Vietnamese citizens in the implementation of Covid-19 control policies from an anthropological and ethnographic perspective. Her study employs qualitative research methods, including participant observation, life history interviews, and photography. During the seminar, she also introduced "Stories from the Pandemic," a project derived from her research findings that documents personal experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam.
Following the presentation, an engaging discussion took place, allowing scholars, students, and attendees to exchange insights and perspectives on the topic.
