Student Science Research Convention in 2020

On the afternoon of October 24th, 2020, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities held the first "Student Science Research Convention in 2020" at Hall 10F. Through this convention, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities wishes to deploy activities of students to do scientific research in the whole faculty to improve the quality of training of highly qualified human resources, contributing to discovering and fostering talents; Promoting dynamism, creativity, independent scientific research ability of students, forming self-study capacity for students; Create conditions for students to have access to scientific research methods and ideas of Scientific research to solve some problems of science and practice. The convention was held with the participation of all lecturers, staff and students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of 3 majors: Tourism & Travel, Tourism & Tourism Management, Sociology, Social Work. The agenda consists of 2 main sessions:

Session 1: includes four reports on scientific research projects that excellent students have achieved outstanding achievements, specifically:

1. Brief report on the topic "Perception and behavior of classifying household waste of students today" by the research team including: Tran Duong Chan Huy; Chiem Thanh Tuan; Nguyen Huynh Tho performed under the guidance of Dr. Dang Thi Kim Phung. The topic won the First Prize of Student Science at University level, Social Sector, academic year 2019-2020.

2. Brief report on the topic "Perception and behavior of using applications on smartphones by tourists related to tourism services in Ho Chi Minh City" - by the research team including: Tran Van Qui, Nguyen Kieu Lam, Lam Thi Huyen Tran performed under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Minh Huan and MSc Pham Cong Danh. The topic won the Second Prize of Student Science at University level, Social Sector, academic year 2019-2020.

3. Brief report on the topic "Impacts of peer group on health issues among people living with HIV in Ho Chi Minh City" - by the research team including Doan Hong Son; Huynh Bich Du; Le Thi Anh Thu under the guidance of MSc Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh. The topic won the First Prize of Student Science at University level, Social Sector, academic year 2018-2019.

4. The summary report of the article "LGBTQIA + at the Blue Sky Club in Ho Chi Minh City" was published in the rank 6th (Q3), on the ISI database by lecturers and students of Sociology, Former Social Work students include: Dr. Do Xuan Ha, MSc Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh, Student Nguyen Phi Hien, former student Bui Mai Sinh.

Session 2: Talk-show: "From idea to research topic" between Faculty lecturers, guests and Faculty students. Introduction, MSc. Hoang Thi Van, Assistant of Student Science Research in Faculty deployed the Plan of Student Science Research in the academic year 2020-2021. After that, Dr. Dang Thi Kim Phung reports on the topic "From ideas to research topics". Finally, the time to share and research orientation for the Faculty's training major comes from the faculty representatives including: Dr. John Hutnyk (Researcher), MSc. Nguyen Hieu Tin (Head of Tourism Department); Representative of guests: MA. Nguyen Van Cu (Deputy Director of DRD) under the coordination of Dr. Dang Thi Kim Phung and translation support from Dr. Nguyen Thi Do Quyen.

The convention took place successfully, with the excitement of exchanges and discussions between Faculty and students of the Faculty from various majors. This convention is a great motivation for students to gain confidence and try more in the process of studying and researching at TDTU.
