Successful Organization of the 7th Student Scientific Research Conference of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2026

On September 19, 2026, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) successfully organized its 7th Student Scientific Research Conference at Hall 6M, together with an exhibition showcasing outstanding student research projects. The conference provided a vibrant academic environment in which research ideas were shared, students’ efforts were recognized, and new journeys of discovery were inspired.

Representing Ton Duc Thang University, the conference welcomed M.A. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Person in Charge of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; M.A. Chau Bao Anh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law; M.A. Huynh Anh Khiem, Assistant to the Head of the Department for Management of Science and Technology Development; and Ms. Nguyen Thao Nguyen, Staff Member of the Department of Student Affairs.

Representing the FSSH were Dr. Pham Thi Ha Thuong, Dean; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, Vice Dean; and Dr. Nguyen Minh Huan, Assistant to the Dean. The conference was also attended by heads of academic units, lecturers, staff members, and more than 200 alumni and students of the Faculty.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Pham Thi Ha Thuong, Dean of the FSSH, emphasized the important role of scientific research in developing students’ critical thinking, academic competence, and ability to apply knowledge in practice.

Throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, student scientific research activities at the Faculty continued to be implemented at multiple levels. Many projects extended beyond classroom learning to address practical issues related to society, communities, and professional fields. In particular, several students successfully developed their research findings into scientific publications.

At the conference, the Faculty commended students for their achievements in scientific publication and for winning high prizes at the university level. The active participation and contributions of student research groups were also recognized. Notably, several studies were published in journals indexed in the Web of Science, demonstrating how student research projects can be developed into scholarly outputs that reach the broader academic community.

Three student groups from the Social Work, Tourism, and Sociology disciplines presented their research findings and shared their experiences throughout the research process, from developing ideas and collecting data to processing information and preparing final research reports. Participating students engaged directly in discussions on formulating research questions, accessing data, working effectively in teams, and understanding the role of academic supervisors. Issues that may initially appear minor during the research process became valuable lessons for students preparing to embark on their own research journeys.

As part of the program, Dr. Hoang Thi Van presented the student scientific research activities planned for the 2026–2027 academic year, opening a new research journey filled with ideas, topics, and academic opportunities for FSSH students.

A particular highlight of the conference was the panel discussion entitled “From Student Scientific Research to Scientific Publication” which offered relatable perspectives from alumni who had personally undertaken this journey. Moderated by MSc. Nguyen Hieu Tin, the discussion featured three FSSH alumni: Nguyen Huynh Thu from Sociology, Le Chanh Tin from Tourism, and Phan Minh Bao Tran from Social Work. The alumni shared practical experiences of developing research ideas, conducting studies, overcoming challenges, and transforming research findings into scientific publications. From their first student research projects to published academic articles, their journeys demonstrated that student scientific research is not merely an academic activity. It can also serve as the starting point of a longer journey—one of exploring knowledge, developing a career, and gradually becoming contributors who create meaningful value for the community.
